SC Department of Public Safety Nurse Practitioner in York County, South Carolina

Job Responsibilities Conducts comprehensive health assessments of patients with acute and/or chronic health problems, with an emphasis on wellness and prevention. Provides family planning, contraceptive management and well patient care. Establishes medical diagnosis, orders and evaluates diagnostic studies, performs/monitors therapeutic procedures, and assesses and/or manages followup plans. Provides clinical direction, education, and guidance to patients; refers patients with problems per written protocol. Serves as resource for Health Services staff, including providing in-service training on current health issues, and for teaching and patient educational materials. Conducts Quality Improvement studies and reviews and participates in the development and implementation of clinical practice standards, nurse practitioner clinical protocols, and Health Services Policy and Procedures. Maintains and enhances current level of knowledge relative to professional practice and acquires continuing education credits as required to maintain licensure; adheres to ANA, ANCC/AANP and SCDHEC standards. Collaborates and consults with physician supervisor to provide high-quality primary care; prescribes and regulates medications per protocol. Minimum and Additional Requirements Master’s degree in nursing, current certification as nurse practitioner from American Nurses Credentialing Center or American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, and two years of experience as a nurse practitioner required. Current RN licensure in good standing by South Carolina State Board of Nursing required. Must meet criteria and be acknowledged by the SC State Board of Nursing as qualified to practice in the extended role of nurse practitioner. Must have prescriptive authority. Extensive knowledge of physical assessment, differential diagnosis, pathophysiology, pharmacology and management of acute/chronic patient problems. Strong gynecology skills essential. Substantial interpersonal skills necessary to instruct students and collaborate with other healthcare providers. Ability to develop and implement activities and plans for the Department of Health Services; establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students and the general public; and communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Effective organizational skills. Use of otoscope, ophthalmoscope, stethoscope, microscope and other medical supplies and equipment. Basic computer skills, including use of email, access of website information, data entry and retrieval, and word processing. Preferred Qualifications Five years of clinical experience, preferably in higher education. Behavioral Health medication management experience. Current CPR certification and DEA number. Experience in a primary/urgent care setting helpful. Additional Comments Please note: This position works 37.5 hours per week from 8/16 to 5/15 each year.
