Sterile Processing Department- Clinical Unit Educator & Quality Assurance leader develops, plans, implements and evaluates educational programs to meet the needs of the Sterile Processing Department (SPD) and to aide in the professional development of staff. This individual maintains open and active communication with the medical staff, patient care staff, and interdepartmental staff. This individual ensures the competency of all staff and maintains departmental education records in compliance with regulatory guidelines. The SPD Clinical Unit Educator & Quality Assurance leader oversees quality and infection control initiatives for SPD. This individual provides a comprehensive and technical orientation, education, and training program for the sterile processing associates. These individual initiates and maintains SPD associate’s education records. Serves as a resource and consultant to managers and staff on educational issues in assigned departments and units. Monitors all processes in SPD and other areas to assure compliance with regulatory and quality standards. The Sterile Processing Department- Clinical Unit Educator & Quality Assurance reports to the RN Manager of Perioperative Education and Clinical Competency; the Manager of the Sterile Processing Department and RN Director of Surgical Services.
- Graduate of an accredited Sterile Processing Program
- Minimum of three to five years of service as a certified sterile processing technician
Certification, as a certified surgical technologist (CST), conferred by the National Board of Surgical technology and Surgery Assisting (NBSTSA) or
Certification, as a certified Sterile Processing Department Technician (CSPDT), conferred by the Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD) or
Certification, as a Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST), conferred by The International Association of Healthcare Central Service Materiel Management (IAHCSMM)
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Five or more years of service as a certified sterile processing technician within an SMC-CCS or SMC-MBC Sterile Processing Department
Certification in Healthcare Leadership (CHL) administered by IAHCSMM.
Active membership in a local or national chapter of The International Association of Healthcare Central Service Materiel Management (IAHCSMM) or
Active membership in a local or national chapter of the Association of Surgical Technologists (AST)
