SC Department of Public Safety Registered Nurse II (Resource Nurse/Nursing Practice Development)/Nurse Educator in Richland County, South Carolina

Job Responsibilities

This position is located within the Division of Inpatient Services.

Under the supervision of the DIS Director of Nursing Practice Development, the Resource Nurse implements and evaluates nursing services on a designated area in an assigned facility/ unit/ lodge in Division of Inpatient Services and Long-term care. Coordinates the clinical nursing functions. Oversees preceptor, mentor, and orientation experiences and provides ongoing nursing education to nursing staff. Functions as a representative of nursing administration of Nursing Practice Development.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

State Requirement: Graduation from an accredited school of nursing and related nursing experience.

*_Agency Requirement: _ *Licensed as a registered nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing. Certification as a generalist by the American Nurses Association (ANA) in a related specialty area required for Community Mental Health. A bachelor's degree in nursing and two (2) years' experience, one (1) of which must be in a nursing specialty appropriate to the mission of the employing facility or center.

Preferred Qualifications

Ability to stand, walk, reach, pull, stoop, bend and climb at least two to three flights of stairs. Ability to lift up to fifty (50) pounds routinely, with ability to lift fifty (50) pounds or more in an emergency. Must be manual dexterity. Ability to tolerate increased noise levels and circulate in patient areas for longs periods of time. Must be able to work with repetitive unusual patient behaviors. May be exposed to blood and other body fluids. Demonstrates safe and effective use of patient care equipment. Must have ability to provide emergency care, including adult, child and infant CPR to victims of cardiac and/ or respiratory arrest. Must be able to utilize BEST practice, including physical defense and physical intervention skills in an environment of unusual patient behaviors, including, but not limited to loud, upset, aggressive, threatening and combative conduct.
