SC Department of Public Safety Psychiatrist (Staff Psychiatrist, Certified- BPH/Forensic Services) in Richland County, South Carolina

Job Responsibilities

This position is located within the Division of Inpatient Services Program

Under limited supervision, performs services to the Inpatient Hospital Service. Provides service to the court system by evaluating detainees on an Acute and/or Chronic Inpatient Unit in the specialty service of the Forensic Division. Exercises medical responsibility for a hospital psychiatric unit; interviews, examines, diagnoses, and treats mental disorders of patients. Performs professional duties requiring analysis of broad and complex issues.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

*State Requirement: * Board certification in psychiatry and forensic psychiatry.

Preferred Qualifications

Agency Preferred: License to practice medicine in South Carolina. Completion of a four- year residency in psychiatry and a minimum 3 years in a psychiatric program. Board certified in general/ adult psychiatry. Five years of post-residency experience in psychiatric care of patients.
