SC Department of Public Safety Human Services Specialist I (Therapeutic Assistant/BPH) in Richland County, South Carolina
This position is located and worked within the Division of Inpatient Services at G. Werber Bryan Psychiatric Hospital.
Under the Supervision of the Director of Activity Therapy Services or designee (Licensed Nurse) will provide specialized therapeutic recreation activities to culturally diverse patient population. Assists patients in meeting their needs for dignity and quality of life maintenance. Utilizing effective leadership and interpersonal skills, provides guidance and assists in providing and maintaining a safe therapeutic environment on the assigned lodge or various lodges for coverage as assigned.
Provides meaningful observations and individualized documentation of activity attendance, participation and responses related to interventions and any changes in behavior, mental and/or physical state and the general well-being of patients. Reports to the Director of Activity Therapy Services od designee (License Nurse) to ensure patient safety. Therapeutic Assistant will be assigned to perform close observations one-to-one (1:1) and monitoring. Fosters appropriate and empathetic communication skills while maintaining a therapeutic interpersonal relationship with patients. Assists in providing a safe and therapeutic environment, utilizing de-escalation techniques and assists with crisis interventions.
Assist the Activity Therapy Department with various activities, such as providing positive interaction with the patients in his/her room, dining room, day room and throughout the facility/grounds to include simple crafts.
Minimum and Additional Requirements

Preferred Qualifications: A high school diploma or GED.
