Tidelands Health Director of Surgical Services - Waccamaw Community Hospital (Murrells Inlet, SC) in Myrtle Beach Area, South Carolina

Position Summary: The Surgical Services Clinical Director directs, coordinates and has 24 accountability for the operation of nursing services within the surgical services division of the hospital. The Surgical Services Clinical Director evaluates employee work performance providing employee counseling in cooperation with the Senior Director and Human Resources. The Surgical Services Clinical Director’s responsibility includes development and maintenance of an ongoing quality monitoring improvement program, including Lean Six Sigma projects. The Surgical Services Director communicates and collaborates with other department for problems identification and resolution. Through the Surgical Services Clinical Director, nursing activities are coordinated with other departments. In general, the Surgical Services Clinical Director works with patients, families, physicians, and other health care providers as well as members of Nursing and Hospital Management to ensure the efficient, safe operation of the surgical services area as well as complete other leadership duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Experience:

  • Minimum of three (3) years experience with organization and operation of a Surgical Services Department, required.

  • Minimum of three (3) years experience with nursing care techniques and methods of caring for the surgical patient according to AORN standards, required.

  • Track history of progressive leadership experience in Surgical Services, preferred.

Education:

Must meet one of the following:

  • Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) with two (2) years surgical services management experience OR

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) with two (2) years surgical services management experience OR

  • Associates Degree in Nursing (ADN) with four (4) years surgical services management experience.

    License/Certification:

  • Current RN licensure in good standing with South Carolina Board of Nursing.

  • American Heart Association Healthcare provider course with Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required to be initially completed with the TH Organizational Development Office within 30 calendar days of hire date (exceptions to obtain certification from a provider other than the TH Organizational Development Office are approved by TH Organizational Development on a case by case basis). BLS Recertification is required every two (2) years.

  • CNOR certification, highly preferred.

  • ACLS, preferred.

    Special Skills:

  • Strong organizational skills, required.

  • Ability to prioritize assignments, handle interruptions and multi-task, required.

  • Demonstrated excellent clinical skills, required.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Software such as Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint, required.

  • Demonstrated effective leadership, interpersonal skills and the ability to lead and facilitate teams, required.

  • Demonstrated proficient written and oral communication skills, required.

  • Knowledge of “LEAN” concepts, preferred.

Physical Requirements: Medium Physical Agility Test (PAT) Rating

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently (activity or condition exists from 1/3 to 2/3 of the time) required to stand, sit, and walk; occasionally (activity or condition exists up to 1/3 of the time) to use hands, fingers; and frequently to talk or hear. The employee must exert 20 to 35 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 15 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
