The Laboratory Supervisor is responsible for the operation, administration, technical supervision and management of resources both human and financial in area of primary assignment. Individual will collaborate with other laboratory supervisors and administrative staff to ensure efficient utilization of designated resources for optimal patient care and will provide oversight of any laboratory area as is necessary to meet patient, client and staff needs. They will also participate in overall laboratory rounds.
He or she is responsible to have a general understanding of the theory of all methodologies within their scope of service, assess client needs, develop new methodologies, implement improvement measures, verify test methods and ensure validity of testing to include patient preparation, pre-analytic, analytic and post-analytic phases of testing and test results reporting.
He or she will perform various duties of laboratory testing commensurate with specialties and subspecialties that are performed within area of primary assignment, recognizing and resolving technical problems where indicated and ensuring test systems are functioning properly before reporting patient test results. Individual will serve as a role model for professionalism.
Schedule is dependent on patient and laboratory need and includes on-site supervision of and off-site consultation for technical staff. When not accessible, assigns another qualified individual this responsibility.
Laboratory and Corporate Compliance, as outlined by the OIG and CMS, is an important aspect of our laboratory’s environment. Each employee is expected to be knowledgeable of, and behave in accordance with the Laboratory and Hospital System Compliance Plans. All functions should be performed and administered in compliance with CAP, AABB, JCAHO, DHEC, CMS, and any other applicable accreditation or regulatory agency.
Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree in appropriate biological, chemical or physical science from an accredited program.
Required Training, Skills and Experience: Minimum of three (3) years experience performing laboratory testing in a clinical setting to include those tests classed as “waived, moderate or high complexity.”
Required Licensure/Certification: Candidate must be certified by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists or equivalent nationally recognized certifying agency. Specialist Certification in specialty of supervision is preferred and/or encouraged.
