Provides selected patient care services and procedures, with documentation of same, under the supervision of the Emergency Medicine Physician. Participates as a team member in the provision of care. Participates in the assessment of patient needs and communicates with other members of the health care team.
Must be a high school graduate.
Must be certified as a Nationally Certified EMT-Paramedic
US Army 68W or armed forces equivalent will be considered
Must have CPR, ACLS, and PALS within six months of employment. Previous hospital and/or pre hospital experience preferred.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to age of the patients served. Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development of the life span and possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s requirements relative to his or her age, specific needs and to provide the care as needed as described in departmental policies and procedures.
Delivers direct patient care by performing treatments as indicated on a Medic Competency
Based Objective. Utilizes time effectively and anticipates the needs of patients and co- workers.
Performs initial triage assessments on patients presenting to the ED for care. Documents findings and reports concerns to Charge RN and/or attending physician.
Initiates patient care protocols on patients.
Reports pertinent patient care information the patient’s RN or ED provider.
Documents all patient care/interventions and pertinent observations.
Provides assistance to patients as appropriate to meet their immediate needs.
Gives and receives report on patients. Understands operation of EMS telephone/radio.
Takes report and helps to coordinate care of the triage team and/or unit clinical coordinator.
Provides support in emergency situations. Initiates CPR as necessary. May administer.
ACLS/PALS medications during emergency situations.
Transports admitted patients to floors at direction of charge nurse.
Applies splints/casts as directed by ED physician.
Assists in maintaining a clean and orderly environment. Clears hallways of soiled linen, ensures clean supply room to be free of clutter at start of shift, and ensures soiled supply room to be free of clutter at start of shift.
Assists in stocking patient care areas at beginning and end of shift.
Provides for patient confidentiality at all times.
Practices customer service standards at all times including the use of scripting in daily practice.
Reports and removes from service any broken/faulty equipment.
Orients new employees as directed by Manager.
Assists with Performance Improvement activities as directed.
