Job Summary: Under direction of the principal investigator, in collaboration physicians, and in cooperation with multiple laboratory members, the successful applicant will work within our group to perform and train other lab members in experiments on human and mouse tumor samples to metabolic pathways that contribute to productive immunity in cancers. Specifically, the research specialist will perform a high volume of highly specialized experiments including flow cytometry-based metabolism assays on mouse and human samples, monitoring of tumor experiments in mouse models, and performing molecular assays (ie. Western blotting). The candidate will be expected to work independently under the supervision of PI and lab manager, to contribute intellectually at laboratory meetings through paper presentations and sharing of data, and to serve as a technical consultant to incoming graduate students and other lab staff. Organization and efficiency are required. The candidate will have access and interface time with surgical and medical oncologists within our research group and the position may appeal to those seeking to attend graduate and/or medical schools.

Payscale Salary Range: UNIV-Band 5: $33,494.00 - $47,734.00 - $61,975.00 (min - mid - max)

Job Duties:

  • 30% - Perform high volumes of in vitro molecular and metabolic assays: Flow cytometry, RT-PCR, Western blotting, advanced tissue culture techniques. - (Essential)

  • 20% - Genotyping/Animal Management. The successful candidate will oversee animal colony management including weekly tracking of animal census, performing PCR genotyping of genetically modified animal strains, and determination of TCR transgenic specificity. - (Essential)

  • 20% - In vivo experiments that include processing mouse tumor samples for flow cytometry and molecular analysis, and monitoring in vivo tumor mouse models and treatments. - (Essential)

  • 10% - Human tumor samples processing and metabolic assay performance - (Essential)

  • 10% - Training of new lab members in molecular and metabolic assays - (Essential)

  • 5% - Preparation and review of manuscripts for scientific publication. - (Essential)

  • 5% - Other duties as assigned. - (Essential)

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements: A bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology, or other natural, life or health care science and one year work experience directly related to the assigned research area.

Additional Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Preferred: Must be proficient in Microsoft Office software. Previous laboratory experience required. Experience with molecular and/or immunological investigations desired.
