Job Summary: The candidate will have the opportunity to join Dr Yu’s laboratory that is focused on mechanistic understanding and drug discovery for preeclampsia, vascular disorders and neurological diseases. Must have a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in cell biology, drug discovery, pharmacology, integrative biology or physiology, animal sciences, or a relevant area of biomedical sciences.

Payscale Salary Range: UNIV-Band 0: Commensurate with experience.

Job Duties:

  • 35% - To conduct experiments using cell culture models. To develop primary cell culture models from human placentas. To test drugs in cell-based assays to determine potency and efficacy. Will utilize expertise in cell biology, assay development, RT-PCR, Western blot, ELISA, cytofluorescence, immunohistochemistry and microscopy. - (Essential)

  • 35% - To establish and maintain rodent models of disease. To perform recovery surgeries with vascular clipping and cannulation techniques. To prepare drugs in appropriate formulations and dose the rodents via oral gavage, tail vein, and intraperitoneal routes. To evaluate in vivo dose-response relationships for potency and efficacy determinations. To measure blood pressure by Powerlab and other various endpoints from rodents. To collect blood and tissue specimens for bioanalysis (ELISA, Western blot, PCR, immunohistochemistry, etc). - (Essential)

  • 20% - To analyze data with appropriate statistical methods, and present progress reports to PI. To present and disseminate findings at national and international conferences. To prepare manuscripts under the supervision of PI for submission to peer-reviewed journals. To assist PI in grant preparations, and in supervision of students. To keep up-to-date with the scientific literature relevant to the research area and use sound evidence to inform experimental approaches and study designs. - (Essential)

  • 10% - To carry out general laboratory administrative tasks to ensure that projects are completed on time and within budget, including laboratory maintenance, resource organization, ordering of supplies and animals, management of animal usage and reports, and coordination with other collaborative research groups. - (Essential)

Minimum Experience and Training Required: Must have a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in cell biology, drug discovery, pharmacology, integrative biology or physiology, animal sciences, or a relevant area of biomedical sciences.

Additional Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Preferred: Expertise in cell biology, assay development, RT-PCR, Western blot, ELISA, cytofluorescence, immunohistochemistry and microscopy is required. Additional biochemical, molecular and cellular biology techniques will be a plus. Hands-on experience with animal handling, model development and experimentation is required.
