Minimum Training and Education: High school diploma or equivalent and two years of specialized audiology experience. Completion of either an audiology program or equivalent.

Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations:

Job Summary/Purpose : Audiology technicians are hired to increase patients' access to care by performing some audiologic services that do not require the skill level of a licensed audiologist. This allows the audiologist to perform the more skilled tasks of diagnosing and treating patients. The Audiology Technician will work under the supervision of a licensed audiologist, performing selected tasks in patient assessment and working with hearing aids and other amplification systems. This individual must follow good safety and infection control protocols. Exercises confidentiality relating to patient and business information.

Examples of services performed: equipment maintenance, hearing aid repair, neonatal screening, and preparation of patient for electrophysiological and balance testing, hearing conservation and assisting the audiologist in testing. Record-keeping, assisting in clinical research, clerical duties and other administrative support functions can be delegated to the assistant after full and complete training and delineation of supervisory needs by the audiologist.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

30% Effort for hearing aid checks

  • Check the hearing aids when they arrive, which include reading the hearing aids on the computer and running an electroacoustic analysis

  • Perform routine maintenance of hearing aids, clean receivers and microphones of ITE aids, and clean corrosion in battery compacts

  • Send out hearing aid repairs when necessary

20% Effort for equipment

  • Verifies equipment is available in each room

  • Patient room preparation, and room selection dependent upon procedure scheduled

  • Shuts down all equipment in booth room, hearing aid fitting room, lab and diagnostics room and verifies all rooms are clean at the end of the day

  • Maintains inventory of clinical supplies.

  • Performs other miscellaneous duties as assigned.30% Effort for new hearing aids

  • Performs hearing aid orientation, including basic care and use of the hearing aid (insertion, removal, adjusting volume, etc.)

  • Provides accessory orientations, pairing of devices and troubleshooting of accessories

  • Completes basic paperwork such as repair forms, purchase agreements, and warranty information.10% Effort for new hearing aids

  • Send out hearing aid orders

  • Track orders to ensure that they arrive in a timely manner for the hearing aid10% Effort for hearing aid repairs

  • Verify patient pick up of repaired hearing aid, arrange as necessary fitting and testing appointments.

  • Assist patient with proper fitting and operation of hearing aid(s)

Physical Requirements: Continuous requirements are to perform job functions while standing, walking and sitting. Ability to bend at the waist, kneel, climb stairs, reach in all directions, fully use both hands and legs, possess good finger dexterity, perform repetitive motions with hands/wrists/elbows and shoulders, reach in all directions. Maintain 20/40 vision corrected, see and recognize objects close at hand and at a distance, work in a latex safe environment and work indoors. Frequently lift and/or carry objects weighing 20 lbs (+/-) unassisted. Lift from 36” to overhead 15 lbs. Infrequently work in dusty areas and confined/cramped spaces.
