Job Summary/Purpose : The Vascular Access Nursing (VAN) Coordinator reports to the Manager of WOC Nursing and VAN programs. Under limited supervision, the Coordinator oversees the work of the VAN Team providing comprehensive evaluation of vascular access needs for patients, utilizing the principles and practices of the nursing process; in an effort to inform quality improvement efforts, reduce post procedure complication rates and provide quality patient care. This position provides education to patients and family members regarding vascular access needs, Vascular Access Device (VAD) care and maintenance while interacting with other members of the health care team to achieve desired results. The Coordinator oversees the work of the VAN Teams assessment and management of VAD care. This role supervises staff to include the hiring, disciplining, performance review, orientation and utilization.
Minimum Training and Education: Master's degree in Nursing (or health related field appropriate for role) from an accredited college/university preferred, Bachelors of Science in Nursing required and a minimum of five years of work experience in the field of vascular access nursing, preferred. Because the facility is a 24/7 operation, position may include mandatory participation in various schedules to include on-call, day, evening, night, and/or weekend rotations or coverage.
Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations: Current certification in PICC Insertion with Ultrasound (CPUI) and VA-BC is required, or obtained within first 6 months. Must hold and maintain these certifications throughout employment. Additional certification as CRNI is preferred. Licensure as a registered nurse by the SC Board of Nursing or a compact state required. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required either a certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers (or AHA recognized equivalent) or an American Red Cross CPR /AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider.
